EuroZulu Safaris – Thursday 7 August 2014

The bush is sometimes a very frustrating place to be ! Today we had lunch at Umganu picnic site and heard a leopard barking / coughing repeatedly for an hour and a half from across the Umfolozi river. Try as we may we could not spot him but there was no doubt he was there. Then, just as we approached Nyalazi river near the gate a big male leopard strolled across the dry river bed 50m from our vehicle. No time for photographs unfortunately but we got him and that’s what counts. Today the elephants all but disappeared with the exception of a solitary bull near Nyalazi gate on our way out. Earlier on at Bhejane Hide a hyena came for a drink before slinking away into the bush again. General game was sparse but we had some good bird of prey sightings including an Africa Crowned Eagle.
