Hluhluwe / Imfolozi Safaris

A holiday to South Africa would not be complete without a Big 5 Safari!

Join us on our signature safari to explore the incredible wildlife (Big 5 plus cheetah, wild dog, zebra and more!), changing landscapes and the unique flora of the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. Learn about the importance of the reserve within rhino conservation and what makes it one of our favourite places to visit.

You are collected from your accommodation before sunrise by one of our knowledgeable guides and driven to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park in an open game viewing vehicle. All our vehicles provide full weather protection for your comfort (blankets are provided in winter to keep you warm!). Once in the park, you will look for animals that are most active at dawn such as lions, leopards, cheetah, wild dogs and hyenas. After a beautiful African sunrise, breakfast is served surrounded by nature, soaking up the atmosphere of the bush. Our relaxed bonnet breakfast includes muesli, yogurt, sandwiches, tea/coffee and homemade South African rusks… as well as some other treats.

The rest of the day is spent looking for other wildlife, both large and small.

The search for the Big 5 may include seeing a rare Black Rhino, with only an estimated 3000 left in the world. All of our guides are extremely knowledgeable about the region’s animals, birds and plant life and love to share this knowledge with you throughout the day.

Lunch is a South African braai (barbeque)

at one of the many beautiful picnic sites in the park with side dishes such as salads and bread rolls and a sweet treat along with refreshments including wine, beer and soft drinks.

Dining is ‘al fresco’ at one of the many beautiful picnic sites in the park and if we are lucky, wildlife may be seen from our picnic table. (On rainy days the bush braai is substituted with pre-packed meats)The day ends as you are driven back to your accommodation in St Lucia to rest and reflect on your safari experience.

For a more intimate and exclusive safari experience there is the option to upgrade to our Elite tour.

As well as all the inclusions of our standard tour, you have the use of a pair of binoculars for the duration of the tour (per couple), a guaranteed window seat as we only allow a maximum of 6 guests on an Elite tour and additional snacks and refreshments.
