For the first few hours of our tour today it seemed as if all the animals had gone away for the weekend !! It just goes to show that we don’t understand them at all : It was cool and overcast, just the weather you would expect to find the predators on the hunt, but instead there was nothing…..until we struck it lucky with a pack of wild dogs between markers 12 & 28 in the south. They were a sight for sore eyes and we had them all to ourselves !! A few minutes after the initial sighting of four dogs, a fifth one came into view with a part of the kill they had just made, still in it’s mouth. That was the highlight of our day although we did have a good elephant sighting near marker 25. Just the vultures were still feeding on the giraffe carcass at the end of Sontuli, the lions and hyenas have had enough it seems. The rhinos seem to have retreated deep into the bush but we had good buffalo and giraffe sightings. There is water aplenty in the Park and what a joy it is to behold. From the dark menacing clouds we saw over the catchment area this morning it seems that more rain is on the way.
