It seems the animals in the Park got their rest day mixed up this weekend !! They went Awol on Saturday which was a very quiet day indeed, except for a cheetah which made an appearance mid afternoon near view point 17 in the South. General game was also very sparse. It just goes again to show that we don’t understand animal behaviour as well as we think we do…the weather conditions were perfect for predator activity and yet they were completely absent except for the cheetah ! Sunday was a great day, however, because although we did not find any lions we were treated to a fantastic wild dog sighting on Sontuli loop. We had these amazing carnivores right next to our vehicle for the better part of 30 minutes. They had obviously eaten a little earlier as their bellies were so full they could hardly do more than walk at a slow pace ! We also had a good hyena sighting near Bhekaphansi pan and we were also lucky enough to have good elephant and buffalo sightings. The giraffes were scarce but plenty of rhinos more than compensated for this. The lack of zebras and wildebeest remains a concern for which there does not appear to be a logical explanation.
