People who have spent a life time in the area don’t recall seeing anything like it and unless we get good rains soon a catastrophe looms. Today we got the “bridge” lion pride again at the main Umfolozi bridge. They had killed a buffalo during the night and were still busy dining out on the carcass when we saw them at around 05h30 this morning. A little later we caught a brief glimpse of two lions near view point 17 in the south. When we passed through Mpila camp on our way to lunch we came across a big bull elephant lying completely on it’s side sleeping under a tree. Despite the dry weather we stopped at an aloe plant, also near Mpila and saw a beautiful yellow flower emerging from the stem.
